If we learned anything from the George Zimmerman trial, it’s that it is time to get the television cameras out of the courtrooms during criminal and civil trials. There is a reason that the Supreme Court does not allow them inside during arguments before the court. Trials are not entertainment. Testifying in open court is stressful enough for witnesses without worrying how you appear and act on national television.
The media can cover these trials without live pictures and the outcome will be decided on what is happening inside the courtroom, not outside. I understand why they like to televise sensational trials, they get high ratings, lots of sponsor dollars and the cast is provided at no cost. The decision to allow television cameras inside the courtroom lies with the presiding judge. It’s time they stand up and say enough is enough.
