In response to Garry Wilson’s letter of July 1: You made a few fairly good points. However, your grossly inflated gun death rate of 30,000 ruined your credibility. Let me quote a paragraph from http://www.policymic.com:
“In the midst of the heated gun control debate permeating over the country like a foul odor, we are led to believe that gun violence, suicides and accidents are a major cause of death in the United States. However, gun-related murder is extremely rare, accounting for about .005 percent of all deaths in the country last year. Even rarer are murders committed with so called “assault rifles,” which pans out to about.0002 percent of all murders in 2011.” (Note: These numbers are based on mathematical analysis of FBI Uniform Crime statistics, and statistics from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.)
A tip: Don’t inflate the numbers, and please cite your sources. You don’t help your cause with wild exaggerations. Verifiable facts are better for intelligent discussion.
