SLO County, Nipomo especially, lost a wonderful leader, friend, giver and gift from God: Paul Teixeira. Mr. Fundraiser, always smiling and telling a joke, Paul was a very humble and tireless worker dedicated to improving life for as many people as he could, whether he knew them or not. He believed “can’t” wasn’t an acceptable word, and you were either a friend or a future friend.
Paul’s passion and dedication to serving Nipomo and South County schools, service clubs and nonprofits led him to run for the SLO County Board of Supervisors. Everyone said he had “no chance” to win; he was the little man with no established campaign machine.
He wanted to do good things for this county; ran an honest, grassroots campaign that was staffed by friends and believers; and he won. He lived the Golden Rule, and in managing his political campaign signs, he demanded and we agreed, “We damage no opponent’s signs, and put back up any that we’ve found knocked over.” Paul would win fairly, or not at all.
I wish I’d had more time with Paul, but I thank God for blessing my life with his presence. My condolences to Deanna and family.
