I certainly agree with the editorial opinion on returning John Ryan Mason to his former firefighter position. This is the wrong action for the city or fire chief to take. The actions of this individual in so savagely beating another person do not in any way reflect the integrity or ethics I would expect of a firefighter devoted to saving lives and property.
I did not read anything stating that he was required to take anger management classes.
I believe that his former position could have easily been filled by a new recruit with no history of violence. This sends the wrong message to all young people who look up to firefighters and police officers and citizens who expect the very best from public employees.
