Our representatives in Washington have again lost sight of who they are supposed to be serving. Insofar as their selfish primary mission is to get re-elected, they go where the money is, and as a result, they sell out to lobbyists of many stripes.
The medical companies (along with a host of other companies whose priorities may not align with the voters) write a check to the campaign coffers of a senator or congressperson and in exchange get the pricing that suits them. We voters get the bill. So, our premiums and co-pays rise, we get less needed care because we can’t afford it; we are prescribed procedures we don’t need, and Congress gets free medical.
Well, not exactly free — the taxpayers get the tab. And yet we vote them back in term after term. So, here’s my conclusion. They’re corrupt and we’re ignorant. Euphemistically, it feels like a colonoscopy without a sedative.
