The whole premise of Steve Provost’s opinion on the Second Amendment is absurd. The government needs to give itself permission to have a standing army?
Perhaps Mr. Provost doesn’t know that the Bill of Rights is a set of rights that the people reserve unto themselves and that government doesn’t have the right to take away. These are fundamental and individual rights. Not one of the original Bill of Rights has anything to do with the rights of the government. “The people” in the language of the Second Amendment refers to all the people and not to the government.
