The History Center of San Luis Obispo County opened a new exhibit in the Carnegie Library Museum on May 3.
The exhibit, “Native Baskets: The Spirit That Binds,” features locally-collected baskets made by Native American artisans. Throughout the collection, the exhibit highlights the function, form and natural fibers of more than 40 unique baskets. “Native Baskets” is the most recent triumph of the History Center’s Exhibit Committee. This committee has been creating beautiful and educational history exhibits for the museum for more than 10 years.
I want to personally thank all of these volunteer committee members: Nancy Hillenburg, Naomi Hoffman, Pete Kelley, John Schutz, Roberta Soules, and Hilliard Wood for all their hard work over the past year, culminating in this exceptional exhibit.
I would also like to thank the community for coming out to support the History Center for the exhibit-opening reception. The five-course Native American-inspired dinner served to all 150 guests was donated by the Del Monte Café in San Luis Obispo and was the perfect complement to the exhibit. All involved should be proud of the contributions they made that created a truly memorable evening and a fitting welcome to the new exhibit!
