I agree with Gene Fiscalini’s Feb. 5 letter that merits can be found in Chuck Hagel’s nomination for Secretary of Defense.
However, I disagree that there should be no concern with Hagel’s past use of the term “Jewish lobby.”
Fiscalini points out that an Israeli newspaper uses similar language. Whether that is true or not is irrelevant to what is appropriate for respectful dialogue in U.S. politics and media. By the way, Fiscalini’s suggestion to Google “Jewish lobby” will eventually lead to results that prove the need for discretion in this area.
I urge rejection of any language that implies that all Jewish people have the same view of any issue, or all act in the same way, etc. That’s called prejudice.
