While it may seem innocuous at first glance, the mandatory registration of all firearms is a dangerous power to be given to the government. Mandatory registration is simply the first step to confiscation of all weapons at some later date. Confiscation of all privately owned weapons is the ultimate goal of the liberal politicians, regardless of what they say, but they will approach it one small step at a time.
The best recent example of this approach deals with automobile seatbelts. If in 1960s the government had come out with an edict that said, beginning in 1961, all vehicles must have seatbelts and you must use them when you are in the car or be stopped, cited, and pay a hefty fine — there would have been a revolt.
Instead, they first said that car makers must install belts. Next year the government said you must use the belts, but you can’t be stopped for not using them. The next year the government said you could be stopped for not using your belts, but there would be no fine. The next year they said you must wear your belt or else be stopped, cited and heavily fined.
Isn’t it amazing how easy it was to achieve their ultimate goal, one small step at a time!
