Through his columns, Charles Krauthammer is engaged in an unrelenting campaign to have our country join Israel in a military strike on Iran’s nuclear power facilities. President Barack Obama’s public commitment to take any action necessary to prevent Iran from producing nuclear weapons is not good enough for him. He writes that our president is “beyond feckless” in his approach to the problem. Apparently the only thing that would satisfy Krauthammer would be for the United States to bow to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s constant pressure for joint military action.
I believe Krauthammer greatly overestimates the power and resources of Iran and greatly underestimates the power and resources of Israel and the United States. I also believe we should set policies and timetables with our own interests paramount, and, while listening respectfully to others views, we should not be unduly influenced by them.
