A royal fan’s opinion
The April 28 political cartoon would suggest that anyone interested in the royal wedding is only interesting to those “obsessed with celebrity.”
I really, really beg to differ. In 1937, when George VI was crowned, I was 5 years old. I was read books about kings and queens, princesses and castles all my life.
Can you imagine the thrill of seeing newsreels showing little princesses on the balcony of a real palace, in their little crowns and ermined robes waving to the huge throng of people?
Never miss a local story.
Elizabeth was 12, and Margaret Rose was about 7. It was magic come true ... right in front of my eyes.
Since then, I have watched this family that brought me such joy, not out of an obsession with celebrity, but out of true caring for them and theirs.
Elizabeth’s wedding, her coronation, the births of her children, the children’s weddings ... and on and on. I won’t be around for many more highlights like this — forgive me if I get excited about this one.
