Not all that long ago, the voters looked to President Barack Obama for change, betterment and racial calm. He stood before us and clearly stated that change is coming.
It has been nearly two years now. The only thing that has changed is the continual downward slide of our economy, the increase in unemployment, the inability of each state to enact its own laws without government litigation and the ever present threat of big government getting bigger. How many czars can one nation have?
We have a stimulus bill that failed to stimulate, a jobs bill that failed to create jobs and a health care law that fails to provide affordable health care. The promises he made were, for the most part, lip service.
Obama has proven to be a colossal disappointment to those who looked to him for hope.
I would ask how he sleeps at night but he is probably on vacation and sleeping quite soundly. Keep blaming former President George Bush and Glenn Beck. That will get the Democratic Party a large voter turnout in November.
Stick with sanity
Has anyone noticed what disarray the Republican Party is in? Tea parties! Regular GOPers! And “pundits” like Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich who sound pretty hysterical to me. I wouldn’t touch the snake oil they’re selling with a 10-foot pole.
Let’s hope we here in California stick with some sanity. It’s tried and true Jerry Brown and Barbara Boxer for me.

Slow the bikes down
I love Grover Beach, and I have lived here since 1959. It is a great town.
I am a Vietnam-era Army veteran. I have diabetes, and I need to walk two hours a day for my health so I can lose weight, drop my blood sugar level and return back to work.
We need speed bumps on our sidewalks to slow down the bicycle traffic.

Abuse of authority
The Sept. 17 front-page article under the heading, “Education” was a joke, right? (“Heat is on girl over laser pointer.”)
It wasn’t meant to be anything but news of the absurd, right? Please tell me which “adult” in the Lucia Mar school district administration thought this obtuse response to the situation of a 10-year-old finding and playing with a laser pointer wasn’t an overreaction.
In the mind of this reader, it was an abuse of authority over a small child. San Luis Obispo County residents can attend criminal sentencing hearings in the county courthouse weekly and observe deals being cut on sentencing based upon various extenuating circumstances.
But don’t count on any form of leniency if you happen to be an elementary student in the Lucia Mar school district. Absurd!
