As a secular person, I’m disturbed by the vociferous hatred I encounter from conservatives claiming to be devout Christians. It is rampant in the conservative media and on the Internet.
Lately, we are being smothered with conspiracy theories.
In one, even though President Barack Obama has gone on record saying that he is Christian, some believe he heads a conspiracy to establish Islam as the official religion as well as Shariah law in the United States. Another claims that Jade Helm 15 conspiracy theories are conspiracies to establish martial law in Texas and other red states.
One can tolerate such inanities as paranoia fomented by constant exposure to propaganda, but when I constantly see such rants as “All Muslims and liberals must be destroyed,” I see no difference from ISIS saying “Death to all infidels!”
Never miss a local story.
When individuals on Facebook demand Obama be beheaded on television, or spew racism and antigay rhetoric, when there are posters saying “We love God and guns,” I can’t help but wonder what kind of Christianity is being espoused.
Whatever happened to the doctrine of love that permeates the New Testament? If you are going to claim to be a Christian, please be a Christian.
