The recent San Luis Obispo City Council ruling against Joe Gambucci’s boat is appalling (“Neighborhood appeal,” Sept. 3). Mr. Gambucci has been a neighbor of mine for over 20 years. His home is immaculate, and his vehicles and boat are on his driveway rather than cluttering the street.
He and his wife are quiet professionals with a young child in local schools — exactly the type of family the city is driving away.
Meanwhile, up and down the street, we have student rentals that are eyesores, with vehicles parked across sidewalks, on lawns, backwards at odd angles.
The city consistently approves home additions that add even more students to neighborhoods that were built when families had one car and four people in the home.
SLO Mayor Jan Marx’s rental inspection tax is less about safety and more about city revenue (along with her animal leash tax that has decreased the number of people on the trails). When is her time up?
