A proud time for myself and my wife: On July 4, 2015, at Arroyo Grande Rotary Bandstand, Bandmaster Gary Thompson honored me by singling me out as one of five brothers who served in World War II and the Korean War.
I was honored by a standing ovation. I am 95 years old and will never forget the moment. I am the last man standing of six boys and two girls. One of my sisters said that mom cried for three years and never answered the front door.
I am also an ex-Scoutmaster and commissioner of Troop No. 54 in Woodland Hills, Calif., a good friend of then-Woodland Hills Mayor Buster Keaton, and I am also an Arroyo Grande Centennial.
