For the past two years, very loud helicopters have been trimming the treetops in San Luis Obispo. There are some great reasons to use helicopters, such as firefighting and transporting sick individuals to hospitals, but most of these “rides” are not for those reasons. These big birds are loud, not like the morning doves in my backyard. It’s more like Vietnam when they fly low over our houses and sometimes rattle our windows.
Most of these flights of fancy are due to the most inexpensive “learn to fly a helicopter” school in the United States, located right here at our local airport. So far, no one in local government is trying to do anything about this noise pollution, which can scream more than 10 times a day!
This is a quality of life issue for the citizens of San Luis Obispo and needs to be addressed by the City Council and the Board of Supervisors. Let’s finally make some ordinance to curb this loud and obnoxious noise pollution from happening!
