How ironic when left-wing blogger Matt Taibbi and rightwing radio host Rush Limbaugh agree that corporate-funded media and Republican “mega-donors” are committed to discredit Donald Trump. In the Republican debate, Trump told the blasphemous truth about the dominant and corrupt influences of money in politics — a truth, incredibly, not far from that of Bernie Sanders’, although their respective solutions are light years apart.
No matter how farcical Trump’s candidacy becomes, he — like Sanders — strikes an angry nerve with those parts of the public abandoned by economic progress and stirred up by radical elements on both sides of the political spectrum.
Recent court decisions such as Citizens United now allow a coalescence of financial power in the electoral process that threatens to spin our politics out of control, perhaps making Trump the forerunner of more populous and dangerous “Trumpensteins” seeking power in the future.
Expect even worse until financial sanity is judicially restored to politics.
