Dear Bike Riders: Hi, I’m Ken, a fellow cyclist who rides 8 to 12 hours per week. I’m also on the board of directors of Bike SLO County, and am very involved in cycling advocacy.
Ever notice how whenever an article or opinion piece on cycling is posted, some of the first (and most liked) comments note how badly cyclists behave on our roads?
Complaints about cyclists blowing stop signs and lights, riding two abreast and blocking traffic are extremely common.
Behaving badly on our roads only harms our own interests.
The best thing you can do daily for cycling is to show others that you wish to be a responsible, courteous and lawabiding road user while on your bike.
When it comes time for our city’s elected leaders, staff and voters to make decisions regarding cycling, the more positive their view of cyclists, the better the outcome will be.
I know car drivers behave badly sometimes too.
That doesn’t excuse our own bad behavior.
Please help me, yourself and your fellow cyclists in our efforts for better bike infrastructure.
Please obey traffic laws and be courteous out there.
