In response to the article “Haggen food stores to lay off workers” (July 18): I have come to realize that our quality of life is at stake when grocery stores change hands.
I still mourn the loss of the New Frontiers store, formerly a favorite place for a lunch treat. I was a regular Albertsons shopper in Arroyo Grande when Haggen took over. I have continued to shop there, for its location, but it is easy to see that things have not been going well there since.
I guess it’s the free market at work, but I do wish we shoppers could have a say about these takeover deals before they happen.
