Last weekend some friends and I spent a beautiful warm summer day at San Simeon beach. We quickly found a spot and set up our chairs, towels and umbrella because the sand was hot!

As we were soaking up the sun we noticed a little dog holding up a paw and running as fast as he could from beach towels to shady spots under people’s umbrellas.

Then his owner came strolling by laughing that “his little feet were burning.”

After that we noticed that there were quite a few people walking their dogs on the beach — and all of the dogs seemed uncomfortable walking on the sand.

Many were trying to stand on towels or under umbrellas, and some were trying to drag their owners over to the outlet of water we were sitting by.

So if you’re planning to take Rover to the beach, please be aware of the hot sand.

Take off your flip-flops and try walking on the sand for five minutes; if it’s too hot for you, please think of your dog’s paws.

Also don’t forget to bring water along for your dog to drink. We get to go to the beach in bathing suits and shorts; your dog is wearing a fur coat and can easily overheat.
