Here is this week’s weather forecast by PG&E meteorologist John Lindsey.
A strengthening ridge of high pressure over California is expected to produce gentle (8- to 12-mph) Santa Lucia (offshore) winds this morning. These winds should produce much less marine low cloud cover and fog along the coastline this morning and warmer temperatures this afternoon with plenty of sunshine.
Today’s maximum temperatures should reach the low 80s in the North County, the mid-70s in the coastal valleys and 60s along the beaches.
Strong to gale force (25- to 38-mph) afternoon northwesterly winds are forecast to develop along the coastline Tuesday into Wednesday. These winds should give cooler temperatures along the beaches and coastal valleys and mostly clear skies.
The afternoon northwesterly (onshore) winds are expected to decrease Thursday into Friday. This gentle and persistent onshore flow should allow marine low clouds with areas of fog and drizzle to develop during the night and morning hours, with little clearing during the afternoon hours along the beaches.
Fair and clearer conditions with above-normal temperatures return Saturday and should persist into early next week. The long-range models are not indicating any rain through the end of April.
Today’s surf report
Today’s 3- to 5-foot northwesterly (300-degree, deep-water) swell (with an 8- to 16-second period) will remain at this height and period through Tuesday morning.
Strong to gale force (25- to 38-mph) northwesterly winds along the coastline will generate a 7- to 9-foot northwesterly (310-degree, deep-water) sea and swell (with a 4- to 12-second period) Tuesday afternoon and night, increasing to 8- to 10-feet (with a 5- to 11-second period) on Wednesday.
A 6- to 8-foot northwesterly (295-degree, deep-water) swell (with an 8- to 11-second period) will develop along our coastline Thursday, decreasing to 4 to 6 feet (with an 8- to 10-second period) on Friday through Saturday.
Seawater temperatures will range between 50 and 53 degrees through Wednesday, increasing on Thursday through Saturday.
