UPDATE 1:50 p.m. Monday: The Morro Bay candidate forum scheduled for Wednesday will now take place 6 to 8:45 p.m. at the city’s Veterans Memorial Building. It was originally set for 5:45 to 9 p.m.
Also, only three of the five candidates will be participating: mayoral candidate Carla Wixom and City Council candidates John Headding and Nancy Johnson.
Mayoral candidate Jamie Irons and City Council candidate Matt Makowetski have chosen not to participate, citing other campaign obligations, said Ron Reisner, the forum’s citizen organizer.
Irons said he was given short notice to respond about participating in the debate and has other campaign activities scheduled on the same day.
Never miss a local story.
Tolosa Press, which had originally agreed to sponsor the debate, has also backed out. The Morro Bay Chamber of Commerce will voluntarily operate the timer but won’t be acting in any official capacity.
The forum — considered a citizen-led event — will be moderated by Bud Zeuschner, who served as a Morro Bay council member and mayor in the 1980s.
