A memorial fund has been set up for David Kubiak, the Morro Bay fisherman who died at sea sometime overnight Monday.
Donations can be made to the David Kubiak Memorial Fund at any Rabobank branch to benefit Kubiak’s wife, Paige, who works at Cuesta College, and their children.
David Kubiak, a commercial fisherman from Los Osos, appears to have fallen overboard sometime overnight, according to officials from the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Department.
His body was discovered about five miles off the coast of Cambria at 10:40 Tuesday morning.
A “Celebration of Life for David” potluck is set for Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Morro Bay Veterans and Memorial Building at 209 Surf St.

Police are alerting locals to a scam letter containing a fraudulent sweepstakes check.
A local resident forwarded the letter to police Thursday because it had a $4,900 check addressed to him claiming he won a prize from the Sweepstakes Lottery Management, officials said.
However, police determined the letter is a scam and remind people to forward such letters to the police department for further investigation.
The Paso Robles man’s name was not released.

Nipomo
Volunteers recently collected 20,000 acorns from native oak trees to aid restoration efforts near the Dana Adobe.
The acorns collected by the 50 volunteers will be used for future plantings at a restoration site in Nipomo near the Dana Adobe.
A higher success rate has been experienced in plantings using native acorns rather than acorns from other sources.
Of the total number of acorns collected, some 14,000 were deemed to be viable and stored in refrigeration for the winter.
The other 30 percent were discarded because they had pest holes. Refrigeration mimics the cold conditions of winter and encourages the acorns to sprout when planted in the spring.
The collection was a joint effort by the Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County and the Dana Adobe Nipomo Amigos. Volunteers came from Cal Poly’s Sigma Kappa Sorority, the American Marketing Association and Nipomo High School.
