Motorists traveling on Highway 1 just north of Ragged Point will find one-way traffic control from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting Monday.
Delays should not exceed 20 minutes, according a Caltrans news release. The work is part of the first phase of a Caltrans project to improve drainage in the area.
The traffic control is expected to be in effect Mondays through Thursdays.
The $235,000 project one mile north of Ragged Point will install several horizontal drains in the hillside above and beneath the highway to collect water from underground springs.
No construction will be done after 2 p.m. Fridays or weekends, according to Caltrans. Arthurs Contracting Inc. of Atascadero is the contractor.
During the project’s second phase, the highway may need to be completely closed at night. Motorists will be notified in advance to use highways 46, 101 and 68 as alternate routes. However, authorized emergency vehicles will always have access to the area.
The state road agency expects the project to be finished by February, weather permitting.

Atascadero
The nonprofit Alliance for Lupus Research is hosting a walk to cure lupus Saturday at Atascadero Lake Park.
Check-in begins at 9 a.m., and the 5K walk begins at 10 a.m. Participants can register online or the morning of the walk.
A blood drive is being held in conjunction with the walk from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Cold Stone Creamery is donating a free pint of ice cream to blood donors.
