One person was found dead Friday in a one-car wreck off Highway 41 between Shandon and Creston, according to the CHP.
A body was found in a vehicle down an embankment off the highway just north of Yosemite Place, officials said.
“The car appears to have been down there possibly a little while,” CHP Officer Bill Irons said, noting they were notified of it about 10:30 a.m.
Officials believe only one person was involved in the crash, he added, but the investigation is still preliminary.

Paso Robles
Kern County coroners have identified the Paso Robles couple killed in a fiery crash Tuesday near Bakersfield as Nicole and Timothy Bomicino, both aged 31.
The pickup truck the Bomicinos were riding in was involved in an 11-vehicle pileup in the southbound lane of Interstate 5.
Four big rigs and seven passenger vehicles collided about 5:18 p.m. north of Highway 119, fire spokesman Sean Collins said.
Six of the vehicles caught fire. The pickup truck stopped behind one big rig and was rear-ended by another and caught fire, said John Van Rensselaer, coroner’s investigator.

Pismo Beach
The 63rd annual Pismo Beach Clam Festival starts this morning in the city’s downtown, running from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and continuing the same hours on Sunday.
With a theme of Seaside Fantasies, it starts with a kayak surf competition at 9 a.m. near the pier, off Pomeroy Avenue and Dolliver Street, which is also Highway 1.
The annual parade starts at 10 a.m., running along downtown streets. The festival will also have live entertainment in the pier parking lot Saturday and Sunday.
A clam chowder cookoff is set for 2 p.m. at the pier.
Sunday’s events kick off with a surf competition near the pier at 7 a.m., followed by another kayak surf competition along the beach between Stimson Avenue and Addy Street at 9 a.m.
The annual “clam dig” is set for 2 p.m. south of the pier.

Grover Beach
The Central Coast Exploration Station in Grover Beach will accept unwanted electronic equipment at no charge from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 31.
Unwanted computers, televisions, monitors and other electronics will be accepted. Microwave ovens and other appliances will not be accepted.
The Exploration Station is located at 867 Ramona Ave., Grover Beach, one block behind Rabobank. For more information, call 473-1421.
