Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Bakersfield, will hold an Academy Forum for students in the 22nd congressional district who are interested in attending a U.S. Service Academy.
The forum is set for Saturday from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Atascadero Unified School District Board Chambers, located at 5601 West Mall, Atascadero.
“I encourage all students interested in serving as an officer in our Armed Forces to attend one of the Academy nights,” said McCarthy, in a news release.
The forum will provide information on the application process, academy life and career opportunities in the military. The application procedure to receive a congressional nomination to one of the five academies will be presented in addition to briefings and video presentations by McCarthy and the Service Academy Liaison Officers.

Atascadero
Jim Guthrie, candidate for 4th District County Supervisor, will be the guest of honor at a get-together Sunday at the South Atascadero home of Jay and Tina Salter.
Guthrie, an Arroyo Grande City Councilman, is running to replace incumbent Katcho Achadjian, who is leaving the board after 12 years to run for state Assembly.
Although Guthrie, if elected, would represent South County on the board, supervisors as a group oversee the entire county and seek support from all parts.
The event will take place from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Salters’ home, 14080 San Antonio.

Paso Robles
Pilots from throughout the western United States will fly historic airplanes over Paso Robles skies in formation today and Thursday during the annual Trojans & Hoovers Fly-In at the Estrella Warbirds Museum. To watch a video about the planes, visit www.ewarbirds.org.
The nonprofit museum is dedicated to the restoration and preservation of military aircraft and memorabilia. It’s located next to the Paso Robles Airport, 4251-A Dry Creek Road, and is open Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.
