San Luis Obispo man pleads not guilty in alleged assault of 65-year-old

closeA 43-year-old man accused of assaulting a 65-year-old man pleaded not guilty in court Tuesday.
Ronald Wayne Perkins of San Luis Obispo pleaded not guilty to allegedly assaulting Clifford Anderson, of San Luis Obispo, on Friday by repeatedly kicking Anderson in the head and face.
Perkins is facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon and elder abuse.
The charge for assault with a deadly weapon stems from Perkins’ alleged act of kicking Anderson in the head, which was likely to cause great bodily injury, police said.
An unidentified bystander punched Perkins in the head, ending the assault, according to police.
A preliminary hearing in the case is set for July 28.
