Crews from the Paso Robles Fire Department burned two abandoned cottages Friday night in the 700 block of Pine Street as a training exercise. The cottages date to the early 20th century and were removed to make way for a mixed-use development. Before igniting the cottages, fire crews packed them with hay and wooden pallets. A third cottage was set to be burned Saturday night. At right, 8-year-old Jack Ostrander, left, 9-year-old Jarrett Knaver and 11-year-old Bruno Ostrander — all of Paso Robles — check out the flaming cottages.
