Bills. Ugh. My boys used to know that when they saw mom get the stacks of envelopes together into a pile on the dining room table they would do well to go play outdoors. It was nothing against them, but I did tend to be a bit more irritable when working with checks and balances.

‘Financial black hole’

The Cambria Community Services District still reeling from the California Coastal Commissions unanimous Dec. 9 vote against a series of sampling tests near the mouth of Santa Rosa Creek is now seeking other possible locations from which to draw salty or brackish water into a desalination plant, and will also be taking a look at other possible alternatives for bringing stable new water supplies to town.
Hundreds of people are expected to attend Cambria’s 10th annual Art&Wine Festival Friday, Jan. 27 through Sunday, Jan. 29 under clear skies, among them art lovers, wine connoisseurs and those who love enjoyable events that bring both elements together.
Nickey Vara of Riverdale was arrested Friday, Jan. 20, on suspicion of misdemeanor hit-and-run, driving under the influence, and resisting arrest following a crash in Cambria early Friday morning.
Salvation Army drive raised $18K
The new year brings a new generation of elephant seals to the viewing site at Piedras Blancas and, with it, action and drama in Mother Nature’s sand opera. This is the peak of the season. The beaches are nearly covered with mothers and pups. The first pups were born in mid-December, and the pups nurse for about a month. The mother goes into estrus near the end of the nursing period, and so the mating season has now begun.
A citizens committee was appointed by the Cambria Community Services District Board of Directors to determine if adding more open-space property makes financial sense as part of the lot transfer program first adopted in 2001. Unfortunately, the committee has recommended to the board that no transfers be made at this time because of cost.
