The San Luis Obispo County Air Pollution Control Board will meet Thursday to approve its annual budget as well as nearly $50,000 in annual fees for Oceano Dunes State Vehicular Recreation Area.
The fees for Oceano Dunes are designed to cover the district’s costs once a new dust-control rule in the park is fully implemented. State Parks is required to implement measures to reduce the amount of airborne sand that blows onto the Nipomo Mesa.
Three separate fees totaling $49,240 are proposed. The bulk of the money will be spent on operating and maintaining an air-monitoring station at the Cal Fire station on the Nipomo Mesa.
“These proposed ODSVRA permit fees will not, and are not intended to, recover the substantial expenses incurred to date by the district in addressing the impacts of this emission source over the past six years,” Air Pollution Control Officer Larry Allen said in a staff report.
The board is also scheduled to approve the district’s $4.4 million annual budget. The budget covers the 2013-14 fiscal year, which began in July.
“We are still operating on a continuing budget resolution,” Allen said.
Thursday’s meeting will be the board’s first meeting since May. Normally, the air board meets every other month, but the regularly scheduled meeting in July was canceled due to the lack of a quorum.
The board is scheduled to meet again on Sept. 25.
