Volunteers are needed to help out with a weeklong eelgrass planting project in Morro Bay.
The Morro Bay National Estuary Program is planning to plant 8,000 bundles of eelgrass across a 2-acre area of the bay floor Aug. 19 through 24. Volunteers will mostly work twohour shifts at tables on the beach assembling bundles of eelgrass to be planted by divers.
Participants will gain an inside look at the science and planning involved in restoring eelgrass in the bay. Eelgrass beds are a crucial component of the bay’s ecosystem, providing valuable protective habitat for sea life.
