Public health advisories are in effect at four beach locations in San Luis Obispo County.
Water samples earlier this week showed high bacteria levels at Shell Beach at Silver Shoals Drive, on both sides of the pier in Avila Beach and at Olde Port Beach in Port San Luis, said Liberty Amundson, county environmental health specialist.
Signs have been posted warning beachgoers to avoid contact with the water at these locations due to high bacteria counts. No beaches are closed and no sewage spills have occurred.
All four beaches were resampled and the advisories will stay in effect until the bacterial levels drop to within state health standards, Amundson said. The county monitors 19 beaches on a weekly basis that are popular with the public and have creeks nearby.
