Thousands of new Cal Poly students arrived Monday to move into the dorms, among 5,896 new arrivals to campus for the fall quarter. That total includes 4,954 in-state students and 942 out-of-state and international.
The university’s Week of Welcome orientation program runs through Sunday with activities that include workshops on study skills, community service projects including tree plantings, dodge ball, a hypnotist show, and barbecues.
Awareness programming includes discussions about drugs and alcohol, healthy relationships, mental and physical health, and sexual assault awareness. Cal Poly’s academic year begins with the start of classes Monday.
The group of incoming students includes 4,667 first-time freshmen, 772 undergraduate transfers, 89 post-baccalaureate students, and 368 graduate students.
