Second-grade students at St. Patrick School in Arroyo Grande dressed up in pink as a fundraising “Run for the Cure” in honor of teacher Casey Reynolds, who was diagnosed with breast cancer this year and underwent a double mastectomy in May.
“Casey is a strong woman and an amazing teacher — she can do anything,” said parent Kellie Simmons, who co-chaired the fundraiser. “If I was a cancer, I wouldn’t mess with her.”
The money raised in the run will be donated to Arroyo Grande Community Hospital and used to provide mammograms to low-income women. A total of 32 second-graders took part in the run at the school, 900 W. Branch St.
T-shirts and hats bearing the pink ribbon logo were donated by All American Screen Printing of Santa Maria.
