Allan Hancock College’s accreditation status has been reaffirmed, meaning the community college will retain the good standing it has had since 1952, college officials announced in a news release this week.
The college’s accreditation status was reaffirmed by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, which conducted a scheduled site visit in April.
“This is great news for our students, our faculty and staff, and our community,” said Elizabeth Miller, the college’s associate superintendent/vice president of administrative services, who served as interim superintendent/president last year.
“Our students can have confidence that our courses meet the highest standards and will prepare them well, whether they plan to enter the workforce or transfer to a fouryear college,” she said.

Allan Hancock College also has a new president. Kevin G. Walthers, who previously served as president of Las Positas College in Livermore, started Monday. Walthers, the college district’s fifth permanent president, met with students on the Santa Maria campus Wednesday.
Miller started serving as interim superintendent /president in July 2012 after former President José M. Ortiz left Hancock after five years to become chancellor of California’s Peralta Community College District.
