Paso Robles teachers will have nine furlough days in the 2013-14 school year, according to a news release from the Paso Robles Joint Unified School District.
While previous negotiations had led to an impasse, the school board unanimously approved a settlement agreement with the teachers union Thursday.
Under the agreement, five of the furlough days will be during instructional days. The others will occur during traditional teacher work days, when students are not in attendance.
During negotiations, according to the news release, a three-member panel from the Public Employee Relations Board stated that the district could no longer maintain the status quo regarding salary and compensation and that the district needed financial relief. If additional funds are made available by the state, the panel concluded, furlough money could be restored.
