A woman was allegedly assaulted by her boyfriend in Paso Robles on Monday morning, suffering a punch to the jaw before she was able to drive away and call police.
Alex Alejandro Lopez, 24, was arrested and booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting corporal injury to a spouse and terrorist threats, all felonies. The woman was treated at a local hospital and released.
According to the Paso Robles police, officers received a report about 10:34 a.m. Monday from the woman who said she was assaulted by her boyfriend as the two sat in their vehicle outside Lopez’s parents’ home in the 1300 block of Oleander Lane. The two were arguing about returning to their own home in Red Bluff, she said.
Lopez allegedly punched the woman and then tried to disable the car by removing engine parts. She was able to drive away, however, and call police. She reported hearing a gunshot as she drove away and told police Lopez had a 12-gauge shotgun at his parents’ home, police Lt. Tim Murphy said.
Murphy said she told police that during an argument about a week earlier, Lopez had loaded the shotgun, pointed it at her and pulled the trigger, but it did not fire. Murphy said that incident occurred at another home in the county and investigators were trying to verify the information.
As of Tuesday evening, Lopez remained in custody in lieu of $60,000 bail, according to jail records.
