A man was arrested on suspicion of attempted residential burglary in San Luis Obispo on Sunday morning after a resident reportedly caught the suspect and called police.
Steven Michael Williams, 28, was apprehended at an apartment on the 2200 block of King Street at about 8:30 a.m., according to San Luis Obispo police, who say they are looking into possible connections between that incident and the commercial burglary of San Luis Print & Copy at 265 South St. in San Luis Obispo. The San Luis Print & Copy burglary occurred at 7:35 a.m. Sunday morning.
The resident of the King Street apartment reported to police that someone rang his doorbell but that he did not answer the door. Soon after, the resident heard someone trying to pry open a window, police say. The resident told police that he confronted the man, who fled on foot.
Police officers say they found the suspect at an apartment complex across the street. Police also say they found the exact amount of cash missing from the commercial burglary at San Luis Print & Copy.
Williams, a resident of Arroyo Grande who recently became homeless, according to police, was being held in San Luis Obispo County Jail on Sunday afternoon with bail set at $75,000.
