The San Luis Obispo County Bomb Task Force responded to a report of a suspicious device Saturday night after what appeared to be a pressure cooker was discovered on a sidewalk in San Luis Obispo.
After receiving a call at 8:38 p.m., police discovered the object on the sidewalk in front of the Del Monte Cafe on the 1900 block of Santa Barbara Street.
Pressure cookers are commonly used to make improvised explosive devices and were the method used in the deadly Boston Marathon bombing in April 2013. The San Luis Obispo Marathon is being held in the city this weekend.
Police cordoned off the street between High and Upham streets and called in the Bomb Task Force to take over the investigation.
The Bomb Task Force rendered the device safe and then disposed of it.
