Paso Robles police recovered a donation jar stolen from the counter of a local restaurant that was filled with cash for the family of a young leukemia patient — then returned the jar to the family after officers filled it back up with cash from their own pockets.
On Feb. 6, at least three suspects made off with the donation jar for 6-year-old Madelyn Gonzales in front of shocked employees and customers at the Bronco Burger in Paso Robles.
Gonzales has been battling acute lymphocytic leukemia since her diagnosis in October.
Authorities still have no suspects in the brazen theft, but said Thursday that the empty jar was turned in by a resident who found it in a garbage can, a Paso Robles Police Association news release said. There were no fingerprints found on the jar.
Anyone wishing to donate to the Madelyn Gonzales Fundraising Account may do so at any Golden One Credit Union branch.
