A San Luis Obispo man was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and other charges after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend on a downtown street Wednesday evening.
Officers responded to a report of a woman being assaulted at Mill and Chorro streets at about 8:18 p.m. Wednesday, according to a San Luis Obispo Police Department news release. They found a woman with head injuries who had been hit with an unknown weapon by her boyfriend, who then fled the area, police said.
The woman was taken to the hospital, where she was treated and released.
The alleged assailant, 21-year-old Tyler Kuppenbender, was served with a restraining order early Thursday evening and arrested, police said. He was booked into County Jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, corporal injury upon a cohabitant, and committing a felony while out on bail on a felony charge. It was not immediately known what felony charge Kuppenbender already faces.
