The Arroyo Grande Police Department has released the name of the man responsible for the large power outage and shutdown of Highway 101 in Arroyo Grande on Thursday evening.
David Skillman, a 46-year-old transient, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence after he failed to negotiate a turn at Cornwall Avenue and hit a power pole, sending the pole and electrical lines sprawling across the highway.
Skillman has since been released from San Luis Obispo County Jail. He was the only person in the vehicle, and no one was injured.
Five thousand PG&E customers lost power, with power restored to most by 8 p.m. The remaining 52 customers were restored by around 4 a.m., said spokesman Blair Jones.
