A San Luis Obispo man was arrested Tuesday morning after allegedly driving recklessly through San Luis Obispo city streets and parking lots while under the influence of marijuana, with his child in the car.
Between 9:45 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. the San Luis Obispo Police Department received five 911 calls about a man driving through parking lots at 50 mph, nearly hitting pedestrians, racing through a park squealing tires and bottoming out his vehicle, weaving in and out of traffic, yelling at other drivers on the road and throwing things out of his window, according to a news release.
Officers found the man — identified as Andreas Huld, 32 — driving near Santa Rosa and Walnut streets and tried to pull him over. Huld failed to stop, driving slowly into Garden Alley, where a work truck blocked his path. Trapped in the alley, Huld stopped his vehicle and complied with officers.
During the investigation, officers determined that Huld was driving while under the influence of marijuana, and that a child in the car with him was his 3-year-old son.
Huld was arrested on suspicion of misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence and evading a police officer, as well as a felony count of child endangerment. He is being held in San Luis Obispo County Jail with bail set at $100,000, jail logs show.
Huld’s child was turned over to a responsible family member, and Child Welfare Services is reviewing the case, the news release said.
