UPDATE: A vehicle struck two cyclists just before noon Monday on Highway 1 in Morro Bay, killing one and injuring the other, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP spokeswoman Laura Browning said the Morro Bay Police Department received reports of the fatal collision at 11:38 a.m. Monday
A four-door Hyundai sedan was traveling south on Highway 1 when it collided with two southbound bicycles at Main Street, three-quarters of a mile north of Morro Bay Boulevard, Browning said, shattering its windshield and damaging its front end.
One cyclist received major injuries and was transported to Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center in San Luis Obispo. The other cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, she said.
Browning didn't know what injuries the vehicle's female driver may have sustained.
Browning did not identify the driver or the cyclists, but said identification of the deceased cyclist is pending the arrival of coroners with the county Sheriff's Office.
The CHP has closed one lane of southbound Highway 1 while officers investigate the collision. Browning said it will remain closed for at least another hour.
The cause of the collision is still being investigated.
ORIGINAL STORY (12:40 p.m.): A vehicle crashed into a bicyclist just before noon Monday on southbound Highway 1 near the Morro Bay Boulevard off-ramp, the California Highway Patrol said.
According to the CHP Traffic Incident Report Page, the collision took place at 11:39 p.m.
The CHP has closed one lane of southbound Highway 1 while officers investigate the scene.
No further information was available.
