A DUI patrol campaign among 12 local law enforcement agencies yielded eight arrests between Friday, Aug. 16, and Sunday, Aug. 18, of people driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to provisional numbers released by the San Luis Obispo Police Department.
Those arrests do not include that of Shandon driver Vicente Muniz Montes, who is accused of being drunk when he caused a head-on crash on Highway 46 East that killed Bakersfield residents Charles and Irene Massara on Saturday afternoon.
Montes has pleaded not guilty in San Luis Obispo Superior Court to two counts of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, hit-and-run causing death and driving with a suspended license.
DUI arrest data from 2012 is not available for comparison with last week's numbers.

The campaign will continue through Labor Day on Sept. 2, according to a news release.
