A 28-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of first-degree burglary, a felony, after an Arroyo Grande resident told police he returned home, spotted a broken window and heard someone inside his garage.
Amelia Paulina Ramirez was also arrested on suspicion of felony possession of a controlled substance and misdemeanor vandalism. She remained in San Luis Obispo County Jail on Tuesday in lieu of $50,000 bail.
Police received a call about 11:10 a.m. about a possible burglary in progress in the 600 block of Del Sol Street, according to a news release. The resident, identified as Robert Cochran, told dispatchers he came home and saw that a window in his detached garage had been broken.
As officers arrived, Fairgrove Elementary School — located next to the home — was placed on lockdown for about 15 minutes because some special education students were attending a summer school program at the time.
Lucia Mar district spokeswoman Amy Jacobs said 59 students and 26 staff members were at the school during the lockdown, which lasted from 11:30 to 11:45 a.m.
Police officers detained Ramirez after she voluntarily exited the garage thorough a side door, Cmdr. Beau Pryor said. The resident told officers that he didn’t know Ramirez and didn’t give her permission to enter his garage.
