Fourteen of 15 people who allegedly tried to smuggle $1.3 million worth of marijuana in a panga boat found off Montaña de Oro State Park will appear in court again June 12.
The defendants all piled into San Luis Obispo Superior Court on Monday, when they entered pleas of not guilty. They are charged with attempting to smuggle 2,000 pounds of marijuana, with an estimated street value of $1.3 million. Sheriff’s deputies intercepted the load at the state park.
The 35-foot boat was the fifth such vessel discovered on local beaches in the past year.
Three of the suspects are American; the others are from Mexico or Central America. A 15th suspect, a juvenile, did not appear in court.
