Each day, dispatchers from the seven police departments in San Luis Obispo County take dozens of calls from residents seeking help for issues ranging from minor disputes to serious crimes. Needs a pick-me-up9:55 p.m. May 12, 7029 El Camino Real
A transient had reportedly been loitering around Starbucks as it closed at night, and an employee said the man was currently lying in the bushes with his legs in the drive-thru. Officers talked with the man and advised him to move along.
Liquid gold6:35 a.m. May 13, 2550 El Camino Real
Someone drilled the gas tank out of a vehicle at Dish Network. The loss of the tank and fuel was estimated to be $1,500.
Movie bandit7:47 a.m. May 14, call to Atascadero Police Department
A resident said someone stole a Netflix DVD from his mailbox.
Beach bum2:51 p.m. May 14, 8361 El Camino Real
A young man on a white beach cruiser bicycle reportedly stole a skateboard from a board shop.
What a load3:08 p.m. May 17, call to Atascadero Police Department
A washer and dryer worth $1,700 were reportedly stolen sometime in the previous hour.
Critter goes bump in the night10:08 p.m. May 17, 5323 El Camino Real
A resident said she heard footsteps near where the trashcans are kept in the apartment complex. The woman said she could also hear rattling and saw a shadow. Officers checked the area but did not find anyone. The woman called back at 11:24 p.m. to say she heard noises again. It was determined to be a possum trapped in a cage.
Miscommunication9:04 a.m. May 18, 6500 Morro Road
A caller said a man in a black trench coat approached him and said he was going to put a gun in the caller’s mailbox. Officers determined the call was unfounded, and no weapon was found.
Country life10:18 a.m. May 18, call to Atascadero Police Department
A borrowed tractor had not been returned, a citizen reported.
Hot commodity10:45 a.m. May 18, 8400 block of El Dorado Avenue
A resident said his trashcans had been stolen the previous night.
Modern nomad10:20 p.m. May 18, Curbaril Avenue at El Camino Real
A man with three donkeys was seen holding a sign. The caller was concerned for the animals.
