Two transients were arrested after police found them with drugs and personal electronics allegedly stolen from locked and unlocked vehicles parked around town, according to a news release from the San Luis Obispo Police Department.
At approximately 11 a.m. Monday, police received reports about fights and disturbances at the homeless camp behind the El Toro Motel at 625 Toro St., which police said caused “a constant nuisance to the surrounding neighborhood.”
Two suspects were found “sleeping in the camp with drug paraphernalia next to them in plain view,” the news release said.
Officers say they also found at the camp construction equipment, methamphetamine and electronics such as laptop computers, cell phones and satellite radios.
Police determined that many of the items had been stolen from various locations in San Luis Obispo, including locked and unlocked vehicles in the 500 block of Hathway Avenue, the 1500 block of Oceanaire Drive, the 1800 block of Lima Drive, the 900 block of Fuller Road and the 1200 block of Sawleaf Street, according to the news release.
Jesse Daniel Maciel, 20, and Shawn Phillip Robbins, 35, were arrested on suspected possession charges for stolen property, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia and booked into San Luis Obispo County Jail.
Both remained in jail Tuesday morning, according to jail records.
Robbins’ bail is set at $60,000 while Maciel’s bail set at $35,000.
Maciel was also arrested on a warrant for a probation violation and is on an active hold at the jail.
Officers are continuing to investigate the case and are trying to identify additional victims, police said.
