Two Fresno men have been arrested two days after catalytic converters were stolen at a business in the 2700 block of Theater Drive in Paso Robles, with a loss totaling $6,000.
The grand theft was reported to police on Sunday about 10:15 a.m., after which police determined someone had entered the fenced private parking lot of a commercial business and stolen catalytic converters from several vehicles.
Billy Jack Curry and Robert Anthony Kajitani, both 32, were arrested about 12:05 a.m. today after a Paso Robles police officer observed a suspicious vehicle in the area in which the thefts took place.
The officer stopped the vehicle as it was leaving the area at a high rate of speed. The officer determined the driver, Kajitani, gave him false information. Kajitani was arrested while Curry was detained.
The officer found a catalytic converter during a search of the vehicle, along with some tools.
Kajitani was arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property, providing false information, driving on a suspended license, and prowling. Curry was arrested on suspicion of possession of stolen property and prowling. Both remained in San Luis Obispo County Jail this afternoon.
